Forty-eight year old animal activist Anita Krajnc has been charged with criminal mischief, and is facing up to ten years in prison. For what? Giving pigs water on a hot day.

In a video that went viral this past summer, Krajnc is shown reaching a water bottle into a truck filled with pigs on the way to slaughter, trying to alleviate their obvious discomfort on this hot summer day. The video also shows an altercation between Krajnc and the truck driver, wherein he tells her, “They are not humans, you dumb frickin’ broad” in a response to her statement “If they are thirsty, give them water.”

Anita has drawn support from all over social media, many using the hashtag #StandWithAnita. Here at Mad Rabbits, we can all agree that water is a basic right, and no one deserve prison time for compassion. Anita, we stand with you.

Anita is part of The Save Movement, Which can be found here, and the co-founder of the Toronto Pig Save.

There are two online petitions in the process to free Anita of charges.

Krajnc’s next pretrial date is 15 December. The earliest her case is expected in court is next August.
