The Tiger Crisis

When people eat meat, very rarely do they connect this with the killing of sentient beings, even the ones they’re eating. But they definitely don’t connect it with the murder of wild animals and they environment. Well it is connected. The meat industry is responsible for over 91% of deforestation and every day thousands of acres of forest are destroyed in order to make room for animal agriculture.

Tigers are in danger.

One hundred years ago, there were 100,000 wild tigers. Today as few as 3,200 wild tigers remain. WWF is working to double the population of tigers by 2020, but the chilling facts still remain.

  • There are only 3,200 tigers left in the entire world
  • 97% of their habitat has been burned down or removed otherwise
  • 3 out of 9 tiger-subspecies have already died out
  • The South-Chinese tiger hasn’t been spotted in 30 years
  • They are skinned alive (as are most animals) because you can remove their fur easier when they are still bleeding
  • No exceptions for cubs
  • They’re often hunted for holistic ‘remedies’. Some are hunted for their penis because people think it will make them better in bed
  • If the killing continues, they will be extinct by 2022

Here are some petitions and other resources I found from this tumblr post:

TIGERS ARE ON RED ALERT

The Sumatran Tiger is said to be going extinct with fewer than 300-400 left in the wild due to large-scale habitat loss, poaching, hunting and human-tiger conflict. Other subspecies are said to follow.

Here are WWF’s suggestions to help our wild tigers, and here are some resources from their website. Please get the word out, we can double their number by 2022, it just takes global effort.
